Aeranthes

Commonly seen in Madagascar, Comoros Islands, Mascarene Islands and Zimbabwe, these short-stemmed monopodial epiphytes exhibit slender roots, strap-shaped leaves and translucent yellowish-green dorsal sepals. It is an orchid genus with 47 species that grows epiphytic on trees in humid rainforests from the coast to the central plateau at an altitude of around 1200 meters above sea level and can grow to about 7-9 cm in diameter. Moreover, they emerge in mostly shady and tropical humid forests and as they grow high in the air we can see why they are named Aeranthes.
