Ascocentrum

Ascocentrum is a genus of epiphytic monopodial orchids which is relatively small group of about 10 species that are native to the Asian tropics. These plants are typically compact and resemble miniature vandas, yet they are considered extremely important plants in the eyes of collectors.

Ascocentrum plants are closely related to Vandas and easily hybridize with these orchids. The resulting Ascocentrum x Vanda cross is known as Ascocenda, or Ascda. The Ascocenda plants offer the very best of both their parents as they are compact monopodial plants that can easily be grown indoors. They too have the same ostentatious growth habit, boasting similar jewel-like flowers of the Vandas.
