The Vanda E 656 is a robust, numbered hybrid from a selective Vanda breeding programme, prized for its 6-8cm lavender-blue flowers with attractive darker tessellation. This large orchid (40-60cm) thrives in bright, humid conditions (24-32°C days, 60-80% humidity), performing best when grown bare-root in slatted baskets to accommodate its extensive aerial root system. Water daily in summer (reducing to 3-4 times weekly in winter), and provide strong light (4,000-6,000 lux) for optimal flowering from spring through autumn. While uncommon in general collections, its vigorous growth and reliable blooming make it a favourite among Vanda enthusiasts. The faint morning fragrance adds to its appeal as a stunning specimen plant for bright spaces.
