Plants in 6 cm pots
The Dendrobium pachyphyllum is a curious miniature species with 2-5cm club-shaped stems that cluster together like a mop head. It's not difficult if you follow two rules: mount it (roots rot in pots) and give a cool, dry winter rest after leaves drop. In summer, provide warm 20-26°C temperatures, high humidity (70-85%) and bright filtered light. The pale yellow-green flowers with fringed white lips appear on leafless stems in spring, emitting a light honey scent. While uncommon outside specialist collections, its bizarre form and manageable size make it perfect for terrariums.
