The Encyclia guatemalensis is a fragrant orchid species native to Central America, found from southern Mexico through Guatemala and Honduras . It produces 2.5–3.75cm flowers in yellow-green and olive-green with a white lip featuring striking purple or red veining . The blooms appear on upright or arching spikes up to 50cm long in late spring and can last for 2–3 months . This species is considered intermediate in difficulty because it needs a distinct winter dry rest (December–April) and bright light to flower well . During the growing season, water generously when the medium just dries out and maintain 60–80% humidity with good air movement . Grow in a coarse, well-draining bark mix or mounted on cork to replicate its epiphytic habitat . The flowers carry a light, sweet fragrance — one clone was even named 'Dr. Pepper' for its distinctive soda-like scent
