The Phalaenopsis Almanis × sib (Phal. mannii × Phal. tetraspis) is a rare spotted hybrid that combines the best traits of both parents: the striking red-brown spotting of Phal. mannii with the compact size and variable patterning of Phal. tetraspis . Originally bred by Californian hybridiser Robert Bedard, this compact orchid (15-20cm leaf span) produces 5-6cm golden-yellow flowers densely covered in red-brown spots and streaks . It requires slightly more attention than standard Phals – consistent warmth (20-28°C year-round), higher humidity (60-80%), and more frequent watering – but the unique blooms make it well worth the effort. Grow in fine bark or sphagnum under medium light (1,500-2,500 lux), and enjoy the bonus of mottled foliage inherited from its mannii parent. Because each sibling cross produces variable patterns, every plant is subtly unique – a true collector's gem.
