The C. G. Roebling 'Blue Indigo' is a legendary Cattleya cultivar renowned for its 15-18cm violet-blue flowers - one of the closest natural blue tones in orchids. This large-growing hybrid (40-60cm) thrives in bright conditions (4,000-6,000 lux) and warm 24-30°C summer temperatures, demanding a coarse, well-draining mix and excellent air circulation. First bred in the 1930s, this trophy-status clone produces an intense citrus-rose fragrance at dusk during its late spring blooms. While modern hybrids surpass its size, 'Blue Indigo' remains coveted for its historical significance and unique pigmentation. Grow with winter rest (15-18°C nights) to encourage flowering, and avoid overpotting to prevent root issues.
These care guidelines are based on general information and may need adjustments based on your specific growing conditions and the needs of your individual plant.
