The Neofinetia falcata — known in Japan as Fūkiran (wind orchid) — is a miniature species prized for its pure white summer flowers with a long 3-5cm nectar spur and intense night-time jasmine fragrance. It's not difficult if you understand its needs: it requires mounting or very open baskets because its fleshy roots rot easily in standard pots. Give it bright indirect light (2,500-3,500 lux), frequent summer watering (allowing fast drying), and a cool winter rest at 5-10°C nights to trigger blooming. While uncommon outside specialist collections, its history in Japanese culture and extraordinary fragrance make it a must-have for fragrant orchid lovers.
