The Guarechea Black Comet is a stunning black-flowered orchid hybrid registered in 2020 . It produces 3-3.5 inch fragrant flowers in dark maroon-red to almost black , with a scent sometimes compared to narcissus . This is a beginner-friendly orchid that is easy to grow, heat-tolerant, and a reliable bloomer . It belongs to the Cattleya alliance (Laeliinae subtribe) , so follow standard Cattleya care: bright filtered light, allow roots to dry between watering, and monthly fertiliser during growth . The flower spike grows sequentially, producing blooms for 3-4 months, meaning mature plants can be in flower year-round . Water once the potting media has dried sufficiently — this is critical for good Cattleya growth . A named cultivar, 'Indigo Blue', is also available in the trade . The key species contributing to this hybrid's genetics are Prosthechea cochleata (75%) and Guarianthe bowringiana (25%)
