The Paraphalaenopsis labukensis, commonly called the "rat-tailed orchid," is a spectacular and rare species endemic to Borneo . It is most famous for its extraordinary cylindrical leaves that can reach 2 metres in length, hanging down like green ribbons . Despite its exotic appearance, the skill level is intermediate – the main challenge is simply providing enough space for those dramatic leaves. In spring and summer, it produces spikes of 5-20 reddish-brown flowers with pale yellow-green edges, each measuring 4-6 cm and emitting a delightful cinnamon fragrance . This warm-growing orchid thrives in high humidity (70-90%) and bright filtered light, best grown mounted on cork where its roots can breathe . As an endangered species, always ensure your plant is from cultivated stock .
These care guidelines are based on general information for Phalaenopsis orchids and may need adjustments based on your specific growing conditions and the needs of your individual plant.
