2.5" Pot Orchid not in bloom
The Cattleya dowiana is a legendary species, often called the "Queen of the Cattleyas" for its breathtaking, fragrant blooms. Native to the rainforests of Costa Rica and Colombia, this intermediate-level orchid is prized for its stunning contrast of golden-yellow petals and a deep crimson-purple lip veined with gold. While it has a reputation for being a bit more challenging, success comes down to two main factors: providing very bright, filtered light and respecting its need for a distinctly drier rest period in winter. With the right care, it will reward you in late summer with up to six large, intensely fragrant flowers that fill a room with a scent of vanilla and spice. As an endangered species, cultivating C. dowiana from a reputable nursery also makes you a part of its conservation.
