The Ludisia discolor var. nigrescens is a rare black-leaved variety of the beloved jewel orchid, prized for its velvet-textured foliage in near-black hues. Unlike standard Ludisia, this dark form requires very low light (500-800 lux) to maintain its intense colouring, thriving in humid terrariums with 70-85% humidity. Native to Southeast Asian forests, it enjoys stable 18-26°C temperatures and a moist terrestrial mix (soil/perlite/sphagnum). In winter, mature plants produce spikes of small white flowers with a light evening fragrance. Its limited availability makes it a coveted specimen for collectors seeking the darkest foliage in the jewel orchid family.

Please note that these care instructions are based on general guidelines and may need adjustments based on your specific growing conditions and observations of your plant's health and behavior.
