The Anoectochilus brevilabris (formerly known as Anoectochilus sikkimensis) is a stunning jewel orchid prized for its velvety, dark green to maroon leaves with intricate golden or copper netted veining . Native to the eastern Himalayas and parts of Southeast Asia, this terrestrial orchid grows on shaded, mossy forest floors at elevations of 900–1,500m . It is considered intermediate in difficulty because it requires consistent moisture and high humidity — its delicate root system can quickly die back if allowed to dry out, but also cannot tolerate being waterlogged . Grow in a free-draining mix of fine bark, sphagnum moss, and perlite, providing low to medium indirect light (east-facing windows are ideal). The species produces small white flowers on upright spikes in summer . Plants are typically available through specialist nurseries as tissue-cultured seedlings . It is listed as a protected species in its native range, so always source from cultivated stock .
