The Papilionanthe (Vanda) Omar Padrón ‘Midnight Sonata’ is a striking intermediate-level orchid prized for its 5-7cm near-black burgundy flowers with a crisp white lip. This terete-leaved hybrid thrives in very bright light (4,000-6,000 lux) and high humidity (70-85%), requiring daily watering in summer and excellent air circulation year-round. Best grown bare-root in hanging baskets, it performs well in 22-32°C temperatures and can flower multiple times from spring to autumn. Its rare status and dramatic colouration make it a coveted specimen for collectors of dark-flowered orchids. The dark pigments intensify significantly when the plant receives strong, direct morning sunlight.
