The Primulina sinovietnamica is a miniature, rhizomatous herbaceous perennial from the Gesneriaceae family (African violet relatives), discovered in 2012 on the limestone karst hills of the China-Vietnam border . It forms a compact rosette of small, thick, velvety dark green leaves with striking silvery veins and purple undersides, making it highly valued for its ornamental foliage . Pale purple tubular flowers with yellow throat markings appear in autumn on erect spikes, but the plant is grown primarily for its leaves . This species is considered intermediate in difficulty because it requires high humidity (70%+) and careful watering to avoid crown rot — best achieved in a terrarium or humid cabinet . Grow in an open, well-draining mix of fine bark, perlite and peat under low to moderate indirect light, allowing the top layer of medium to dry slightly between waterings . With only two known wild populations and slow growth in cultivation, this is a rare collector's treasure for terrarium enthusiasts .
