The Cattleya Hisako Akatsuka is a prized Japanese hybrid producing 12-15cm lavender-pink flowers with a sweet floral fragrance. Named for renowned hybridiser Hisako Akatsuka, this intermediate-level orchid thrives in bright filtered light (3,500-4,500 lux) and 60-75% humidity, blooming in late winter when given proper care. Grow in chunky bark mix, watering only when the medium is nearly dry, and provide a 5-8°C temperature variation between day and night to encourage flowering. Its limited availability outside Japan makes it a coveted specimen for collectors, with flowers lasting 3-4 weeks under ideal conditions.
