The Paphiopedilum wardii is a coveted Burmese slipper orchid, producing 7-9cm apple-green flowers with burgundy spotting and a distinctive helmet-shaped dorsal sepal. Thriving in cool-intermediate conditions (20-24°C summer days) with high humidity (65-80%), this medium-sized terrestrial demands calcium-rich growing media and pristine rainwater. Its tessellated emerald foliage provides year-round interest, while late winter blooms emerge on 25-35cm stems. As a CITES Appendix I species, wild-collected plants are illegal, making responsibly propagated specimens trophy-worthy acquisitions. Grow in fine, well-draining mix with added limestone, providing dappled light (1,200-1,800 lux) to mimic its native cloud forest habitat.
These care guidelines are based on general information and may need adjustments based on your specific growing conditions and the needs of your individual plant.
