Orchid not in bloom.
The C. percivaliana × sib is a sibling cross of the famous 'Christmas Cattleya', prized for its 10-12.5cm fragrant flowers in shades of pink, purple, and white. Native to Venezuelan and Colombian mountains at 1,300-2,000m, this orchid adapts well to cultivation with just a few key requirements. The intermediate skill level reflects its need for bright light and a slightly cooler winter rest – not difficult, just different from standard Phalaenopsis care.
Grow in chunky bark mix providing bright filtered light (3,000-4,500 lux) – think east or west window with some morning sun . Summer temperatures of 22-28°C with nights 16-20°C suit it well. The key to its famous winter blooms is giving cooler nights (12-15°C) from late autumn, mimicking its mountain home .
Water when the medium nears dryness and reduce slightly after flowering. The flowers carry a characteristic musky-spicy scent and typically appear around Christmas time, making it a festive favourite .
